✧ kaleidoscope is derived from the Ancient Greek word καλός (kalos), "beautiful, beauty", εἶδος (eidos), "that which is seen: form, shape" and σκοπέω (skopeō), "to look to, to examine", hence "observation of beautiful forms."
✧ ka·lei·do·scop·ic /kəˌlīdəˈskäpik/ adjective:
• having complex patterns of colors; multicolored.
• made up of a complex mix of elements; multifaceted.

When I discovered Neocities, the nostalgia hit me hard. Like a lot of others on here I grew up during the 2000s Internet era. I first started learning HTML and how to make websites when I was around 8. I never got particularly good at it, but I loved being able to make my own layouts and customize everything. I taught myself how to use Photoshop 7.0 (which I still use to this day) to make layouts, wallpapers, and Winamp skins to share with others. I mostly used Geocities and Freewebs and made personal sites, fan sites, and mp3 rotation sites. With today's social media sites, I miss all of that creativity and unique personal expression, so I'm glad to have come across this revival here.
